President William Ruto casts Kalonzo Musyoka as a publicist for his development agenda while visiting the Wiper leader’s political stronghold.
President William Ruto said he delivers development while Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka helps publicise projects during his Ukambani tour. He also said God was using both leaders to advance Kenya’s development.
Speaking in Kiswahili, the President framed their roles as complementary, despite their political rivalry. His remarks came as he promoted his administration’s development agenda in Kalonzo’s political stronghold.
Development message during Ukambani tour
Ruto used the visit to highlight his administration’s work, while linking Kalonzo’s public profile to publicity for government projects. The President’s comments presented the opposition leader as someone helping draw attention to the development he champions.
More broadly, Ruto has consistently highlighted development projects as part of his administration’s record. He has also sought to strengthen his political support across the country.
Political rivalry ahead of 2027
Meanwhile, Kalonzo remains a prominent opposition figure and a former Vice President. He has taken part in political discussions about opposition efforts to challenge Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
The President’s remarks therefore came against a backdrop of rivalry between the Kenya Kwanza administration and opposition leaders. During the visit, however, Ruto cast Kalonzo’s role in terms of publicity for development rather than electoral competition.
