The panel urges victims to submit outstanding applications before the cutoff, then plans to verify claims before deciding outcomes.

The Victims Compensation Panel will stop accepting new claims on November 14, 2026. It has urged victims with outstanding applications to submit them before the deadline.

Prof. Makau Mutua, the panel’s chairperson and principal coordinator, signed the notice announcing the cutoff. The notice says the intake period is nearing its end and rules out accepting new claims after that date.

Victims Compensation Panel outlines eligible harm

The panel handles applications covering several categories of harm. These include fatalities, physical injuries, sexual violence, economic losses and other recognised forms of harm.

Affected people who have not yet filed claims should submit the necessary information within the remaining period. Doing so will allow the panel to consider their applications under the ongoing compensation process.

Verification will come before decisions

However, submitting a claim is not the final step in the process. The panel says it will carefully verify and authenticate all claims received by the deadline before making decisions.

This review aims to establish whether each claim is genuine before the panel determines the appropriate action. Claimants will then receive information about their outcomes in due course, the notice says.

The November deadline therefore marks the close of new applications, rather than a date for compensation decisions. For victims yet to apply, the panel’s immediate message is to file before the intake window closes.
