The board names Tarig Iqbal acting CEO and changes bank signatories following disciplinary findings and compliance failures.
Cricket Kenya CEO Ronald Bukusi has left the federation after its board terminated his employment with immediate effect. The board also ended the appointments of directors Thomas Odoyo, Beryl Oyugi and Mansukh Hirani.
The federation announced the changes on Monday in a statement detailing disciplinary findings and compliance failures. Former Kenyan cricketer Tarig Iqbal will serve as acting CEO while the board competitively recruits a substantive chief executive.
Chairman Bhavesh Gohil and Vice Chairperson Pearlyne Omamo lead the board, which also changed the federation’s banking authorisations.
Cricket Kenya CEO departure follows disciplinary findings
The board’s decision followed an investigation by Cricket Kenya’s Independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee. The committee examined complaints involving funds, compliance records and the federation’s proposed affiliation with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya.
In its October 20 decision, the committee upheld the financial-management allegation against Bukusi. It cited concerns about financial reporting, expenditure records and management accountability.
Following a meeting on October 23, the board consequently resolved to terminate Bukusi’s employment immediately. Iqbal’s interim appointment aims to maintain leadership continuity during the recruitment process.
Three directors lose appointments over compliance documents
Meanwhile, the board said Odoyo, Oyugi and Hirani had failed to submit required Chapter Six compliance documents. Cricket Kenya’s constitution requires those records, the board said.
It concluded that the three appointed directors had therefore automatically forfeited their positions and could no longer continue serving. Their departures stemmed from the document requirements, while the committee’s findings against Bukusi concerned financial management.
The board named Weldon Cheruiyot Mutai as Hirani’s replacement and Sarah Mayaka as Oyugi’s successor. However, it is still seeking a replacement for Odoyo.
Chairman and vice chair take banking authority
The board also revised its bank signatories, making joint signatures from Gohil and Omamo mandatory for all transactions.
Under the arrangement, only the chairman and vice chair may sign banking documents for Cricket Kenya’s accounts. They also hold sole authority to communicate with bank officials and issue account-related instructions, the board minutes state.
The banking changes accompany the leadership appointments as the federation moves forward with an acting chief executive.
