Microsoft Teams offers tools for managing meetings and unfinished messages.
Teams offers a meeting timer, voice isolation, live transcription and a drafts list to help users manage calls and unfinished messages.
Four Microsoft Teams features offer practical ways to manage meeting time, reduce background noise and recover unfinished messages. Alongside chats and video calls, users can access a countdown timer, voice isolation, live transcription and a drafts list.
Microsoft says Teams has more than 320 million monthly active users. However, some tools require specific meeting permissions, administrator approval or initial setup.
Microsoft Teams features for meeting time and sound
Microsoft introduced a meeting countdown timer in mid-2025. To open it, select More in the meeting’s top toolbar, then choose Timer. Users can set a countdown of up to 100 minutes.
The timer appears in the meeting’s top-left corner, and other attendees with presenter capabilities can also see it. As time runs out, it turns red, then flashes when the countdown ends.
Users can change or cancel the timer after setting it. However, it works only in scheduled meetings, not webinars, live events or spontaneous calls.
Meanwhile, voice isolation uses artificial intelligence to reduce background noise during calls and meetings. Before using it, users need to create a voice profile through the settings menu.
Select the three dots in the top toolbar, open Settings, then choose Recognition and Create a voice profile. Next, select Start voice capture, read the short paragraph and choose End voice capture.
During a call, the dropdown beside the microphone button provides the voice isolation toggle. Users can therefore switch the feature on or off as needed.
Catch up on meetings and recover unsent drafts
Live transcription, which launched in 2021, lets participants read earlier parts of a meeting while it continues. Microsoft says it works almost immediately, distinguishes between speakers and remains available after the meeting ends.
If an administrator allows transcription, the organiser or presenter can activate it through the toolbar’s three-dot menu. Teams then notifies everyone in the meeting.
Participants can also disable speaker attribution in their accessibility settings if they do not want identification in the transcript. This gives users a way to follow the discussion without attaching their name to their contributions.
For interrupted conversations, Teams added easier access to unsent drafts in March 2026. The Drafts option in the left-hand chat panel displays messages users started typing but never sent.
Instead of searching individual chats, users can select a draft and return to its original conversation to finish writing. Alternatively, they can discard a message they no longer need.
