Mitchell Cotts will support Mombasa Sports Club Rugby’s Kenya Cup promotion bid through a three-season sponsorship.
Mitchell Cotts will provide Sh1.5 million annually over three seasons as Mombasa Sports Club Rugby targets a return to the Kenya Cup.
A Sh4.5 million Mombasa Rugby sponsorship agreement with Mitchell Cotts Freight Kenya Limited will support the club’s Kenya Cup promotion push. The logistics company will become Mombasa Sports Club Rugby’s title sponsor for three seasons.
The partnership covers the 2026/27, 2027/28 and 2028/29 seasons, with annual funding of Sh1.5 million. It also builds on a kit sponsorship agreement between the two organisations during the 2025/26 season.
Club chairman Rogers Otieno Lai welcomed the expanded backing as the team targets a return to Kenya’s top rugby competition. He thanked Mitchell Cotts for increasing its support and said partnerships would help the club achieve that goal.
Mombasa Rugby sponsorship covers operations and playing kits
The funding will help cover daily club management and match operations, including travel, accommodation and meals. It will also support equipment purchases and other match-day expenses.
In return, Mitchell Cotts will take the front-of-shirt position on the senior 15s and sevens playing kits. The agreement also gives the company branding rights across match days, digital platforms and community rugby activities.
Mitchell Cotts Group General Manager for Commercial Maina Kio said the club had demonstrated discipline and transparency. He added that the larger commitment reflected confidence in the team and support for communities where the company operates.
Kio also expressed pride in backing Mombasa’s effort to regain a place in the Kenya Cup.
Championship campaign begins against South Coast Pirates
Mombasa will open its Kenya Rugby Championship campaign away to South Coast Pirates on November 21, 2026. The 11-match season runs until March 13, 2027, with five fixtures at Mombasa Sports Club.
Meanwhile, Listen Media director Teddy Ndemo said the three-season agreement would give the club greater stability. His agency manages the club’s commercial rights and sought to develop the kit arrangement into a longer-term partnership.
Ndemo said the move to title sponsorship would help support the club’s sporting ambitions over the three seasons.
Beyond the senior teams, the partnership will also support Mombasa’s age-grade and community rugby programme. That programme offers young players along the Coast a route into senior rugby under a safeguarding policy.
