President William Ruto’s Ukambani tour focuses on roads, water supply and land ownership.
President William Ruto highlights road and water investments during his Ukambani tour and urges residents to support his 2027 re-election bid.
President William Ruto praises Kalonzo Musyoka for acknowledging government development projects in Ukambani, particularly road construction. He described the Wiper Democratic Movement leader’s remarks as an honest recognition of his administration’s work.
Ruto spoke as he began a four-day development tour of Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties. During the tour, he commissioned infrastructure projects and announced further investments in roads and water supply.
Ruto praises Kalonzo as he seeks electoral support
The President welcomed remarks he attributed to Kalonzo that God was using him to advance development in Ukambani. He also said God was using the opposition leader to highlight the government’s achievements.
However, Ruto accused other politicians of dismissing projects even in their own regions. He urged Ukambani residents to support his re-election bid in 2027, arguing that his administration had prioritised equitable development.
Ruto blamed the region’s infrastructure gaps on marginalisation, divisive politics and tribalism. In contrast, he said his government would deliver projects regardless of residents’ political affiliations.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah urged Kalonzo to work with the President. He claimed some of Kalonzo’s current allies had betrayed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and could repeat that conduct.
Thwake Dam funding and Makueni roads
On water infrastructure, Ruto announced a KSh11 billion allocation to accelerate completion of Thwake Dam. He said the project should finish by April 2027 and support household consumption, livestock and irrigation.
The President also said the National Infrastructure Fund would support additional dams across the country.
In Makueni, Ruto launched the KSh1.4 billion Kyambeke-Kyuasini-Ukia road and commissioned the KSh1.5 billion Kyambeke-Kikoko road in Kaiti Constituency. He said the government was investing KSh16 billion in seven new roads covering approximately 180 kilometres across the county.
Alongside the road projects, Ruto issued 6,800 title deeds at Kyambeke Trading Centre to Kaiti residents. He said the government remained committed to resolving land ownership challenges.
Machakos water supply and Kitui road project
In Machakos, the President commissioned the KSh1.47 billion Mwala Cluster Water Supply Project. It has a daily capacity of 6.6 million litres and should serve 137,400 people and 10 institutions across 10 towns.
He also announced a KSh500 million second-phase last-mile water project targeting another 120,000 Mwala residents. In addition, Ruto said the government was constructing 10 roads in Machakos at a cost of KSh21 billion.
In Kitui, he launched tarmacking works on the 10-kilometre Kwa Vonza-Kiusyani Road. The project has an expected completion period of 18 months.
