The Kirinyaga Woman Representative has combined skincare, fashion and spa services in a venture that employs six young people.

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has launched the Skinly beauty brand, bringing together skincare, fashion and spa services. She unveiled the venture at Bonsai Villa in Gigiri, Nairobi.

The business already employs six young people below the age of 25. Maina also sees opportunities for further hiring as the venture expands.

She said her personal interests in skincare and fashion inspired the business. By combining them, she hopes to meet women’s lifestyle needs through a single brand.

What the Skinly beauty brand offers

Skinly’s services include facial analysis, beauty therapy, manicures and pedicures, alongside products for different skin types. Its fashion range also features shoes, dresses, hats and fascinators.

Maina said she wanted women to access several services while making time for themselves. For her, skincare forms part of how women look after themselves and present themselves to others.

The business uses pink and pastel colours in its design. Maina said those choices reflect her aim of creating a relaxing setting for shopping and personal care.

Beyond her own interests, she described entrepreneurship as a way to create employment, particularly for young people. The six existing jobs form part of that ambition.

Investing despite economic uncertainty

The launch comes amid economic uncertainty and ahead of the 2027 General Election. However, Maina said she did not want to delay her plans until conditions improved.

She expressed confidence in Kenya and its institutions, saying investment and job creation could continue during uncertain periods. She also argued that leaders could encourage investment through their own business ventures while serving in public office.

Waiting for ideal conditions, she said, could mean postponing the business for another five or ten years. Instead, she chose to proceed rather than keep searching for a perfect moment.

A return to music

Alongside the business launch, Maina has returned to music with the reggae single Hit and Run. The love song addresses self-serving partners.

During her university years, she recorded as Carola Jayne while associated with Grandpa Records. Her latest release therefore adds to an earlier involvement in music.

Maina is also an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and runs Njeri Maina Law Advocates. She represents Kirinyaga women in the National Assembly.
