Deputy President Kithure Kindiki promises fair resource allocation as he reviews road, market and electricity projects in Njoro.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the Usawa ni Sawa agenda, pledging equitable development and economic opportunities across Kenya. He said the government would pursue fair resource distribution without discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, age, gender or location.

Kindiki spoke on Tuesday during a development inspection tour of Njoro Constituency in Nakuru County. He also addressed residents at Nesuit shopping centre on projects in the constituency and across the county.

Usawa ni Sawa agenda targets equal opportunities

Kindiki linked the commitment to the United Democratic Alliance manifesto and its approach to growing the economy from the bottom. He said every region should benefit fairly, while every citizen should afford basic commodities.

He also pledged to tackle tribal, religious and generational divisions that undermine national unity. Under the agenda, he said, no community should face marginalisation because of its identity or location.

Road and market projects in Njoro

During the tour, Kindiki inspected the Njoro-Beeston-Lawina-Elburgon Road, which has a construction cost of KSh2 billion. He also reviewed the KSh55 million Nesuit modern ESP Market, which stands at 99 per cent completion.

Meanwhile, two other market projects are underway in Njoro: Mauche at KSh56 million and Kihingo at KSh65 million. Kindiki promised additional markets following requests from local leaders.

He said the facilities would give vegetable sellers and other traders cleaner, more dignified places to work. The projects form part of the administration’s commitment to improve conditions for small businesses.

The county’s development programme also includes KSh46 billion for affordable housing, modern markets and institutional accommodation. These projects cover student hostels as well as police and prison housing.

In addition, ongoing road projects span more than 870 kilometres, with a combined value of KSh38 billion. They include the Mauche-Sururu and Njoro-Olenguruone-Silibwet roads.

Push for wider electricity access

The last-mile electricity programme has a KSh3 billion allocation targeting 25,000 homes across Nakuru County. Within that allocation, Njoro has received KSh370 million to connect another 3,300 homes.

However, Kindiki pledged to seek more funding to raise Njoro’s target to 6,500 homes. He said access to electricity should not depend on the standard of a family’s house.

Local leaders accompanying him included Njoro MP Charity Kathambi and Kuresoi South MP Joseph Tonui. Nakuru Woman Representative Liza Chelule and Deputy Governor David Kones also attended.
