Kenyan passport fraud case at JKIA Law Courts

The court imposed fines on three charges and ordered deportation to Somalia if the man pays.

A Somali national has received fines totalling Ksh370,000 in a Kenyan passport fraud case at the JKIA Law Courts. He admitted three charges involving unlawful stay and fraudulent identity documents.

Immigration officials at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport flagged his documents before referring the case to investigators. Detectives from Immigration and Citizen Services Investigations then took up the matter.

The court imposed a Ksh150,000 fine for staying in Kenya unlawfully without the required documents. It also fined him Ksh150,000 for falsifying his identity to obtain Kenyan passport credentials.

A further Ksh70,000 penalty covered knowingly presenting an identity card containing fraudulent entries to deceive airport authorities. The court found that he had no legal basis to hold the documents.

Kenyan passport fraud ruling includes deportation

Alongside the financial penalties, the court imposed prison terms in default of payment. It also ordered his deportation to Somalia if he pays the fines.

The ruling therefore addresses both the offences and his continued presence in Kenya. Payment of the Ksh370,000 would trigger the court’s deportation order rather than allow him to remain in the country.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the fraudulently acquired passport will go to the Director General of Immigration Services for destruction. That order covers the Kenyan travel document obtained through the false identity, alongside the penalties for his unlawful stay and fraudulent identity card.
