Mosiria stated, signalling his intention to campaign across the city and present his policies to residents. Mosiria has previously said he wants to challenge incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja.

He declared his interest in the seat earlier in October, setting up a potential contest with the administration that previously employed him.

Mosiria Outlines His Development Priorities

Mosiria has identified healthcare, public safety and accountability as key priorities for his proposed administration. According to his account of the meeting, Sonko urged him to prioritise the long-awaited Pumwani Maternity Hospital project if elected.

Mosiria also pledged to expand Mutuini Hospital and strengthen enforcement of building regulations. He has further promised to tackle corruption and protect residents from unsafe buildings. These commitments form part of his stated campaign agenda, rather than completed or funded projects.

Sakaja Faces Potential Challenger

The political developments follow Mosiria’s removal from his Nairobi County chief officer position in October. The county reshuffle took effect on October 21, days after he publicly declared his gubernatorial ambitions. The official notice did not specify the reasons for his removal.

Mosiria has also expressed interest in working with other political figures, including Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i and People’s Party leader Ndindi Nyoro. Their positions and any formal agreements will shape how the potential coalition develops.

Nairobi’s 2027 Race Takes Shape

Sonko’s reported endorsement adds another dimension to the contest for City Hall. Other politicians, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, have also expressed interest in the governorship. However, the eventual field will depend on party decisions, nominations and candidates’ final declarations.

For now, the Sonko–Mosiria partnership signals an emerging political alliance as aspirants begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 election.
