NPS-UK policing cooperation discussions have focused on strengthening police preparedness and supporting peaceful elections ahead of Kenya’s 2027 vote. The National Police Service said the engagement covered operational planning, public trust and officers’ ability to address emerging challenges.
National Police Leadership Academy Commandant David Mathiu hosted the consultative meeting on Tuesday, October 28. Mathiu, an Assistant Inspector General of Police, met a British High Commission delegation led by Victoria Porter.
NPS-UK policing cooperation priorities
According to the NPS, the two sides explored collaboration in community policing, public engagement and intelligence gathering. They also discussed communication and conflict de-escalation as part of preparations for the election.
Operational readiness formed another part of the talks, including public order management and contingency planning. In addition, participants considered multi-agency coordination and the development and testing of operational plans for the 2027 polls.
The discussions identified priority areas for capacity development, exchanges of expertise and sustained cooperation between the two sides.
Public trust and citizens’ rights
Alongside operational preparations, participants stressed the importance of police accountability and constructive engagement with communities. Public trust also featured as a central concern in the discussions.
