Africa CDC will deploy 10 public health experts and supply diagnostic kits, alongside additional funding for Kenya’s emergency coordination centre.

Africa CDC has mobilised approximately $1.5 million in financial, technical and operational support for Kenya’s Ebola response. The package includes expert deployments, diagnostic supplies and assistance with containment measures.

The commitment follows a Nairobi meeting between Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya. During the talks, Duale outlined the steps Kenya has taken to contain the outbreak.

Kaseya praised Kenya’s rapid mobilisation, early detection and timely interventions. He also highlighted enhanced surveillance and coordinated national action as key elements of the country’s approach.

Experts and supplies to strengthen Ebola response

As part of the package, Africa CDC will deploy 10 African public health experts to support Kenya. The agency will also provide laboratory reagents, diagnostic test kits and specialised equipment to reinforce outbreak response capacity.

Its assistance covers surveillance, contact tracing, case management and community engagement. These areas form part of Kenya’s efforts to limit the virus’s spread and protect communities.

Meanwhile, Kenya continues to implement surveillance, detection and containment measures as health authorities work to control the outbreak.

Additional funding for emergency coordination

An additional $350,000 will support Kenya’s Public Health Emergency Operations Centre, which coordinates preparedness and responses to health emergencies. The allocation aims to strengthen emergency coordination and improve the centre’s ability to respond to health threats.

Kaseya also reaffirmed Africa CDC’s commitment to working with Kenya to protect the population and reduce cross-border transmission risks.

Health ministers discuss regional containment

Beyond the bilateral meeting, Africa CDC convened an extraordinary meeting of African health ministers on October 28, 2026. The meeting focused on assessing the Ebola situation, reinforcing coordination and agreeing on urgent containment and prevention measures.

Duale and Kaseya stressed the importance of continental solidarity, timely resource mobilisation and joint action during health emergencies. Both leaders emphasised that no country can effectively address such threats alone.
