A year-long Kenya Airways partnership with Capital FM will support joint content, marketing and audience engagement. The agreement covers travel, lifestyle, events and sustainability, alongside opportunities to develop emerging talent.
The two brands signed the deal on Thursday at Capital FM’s offices. It comes as the broadcaster marks 30 years and the airline approaches its 50th anniversary in January 2027.
Kenya Airways General Manager for Digital, Brand and Marketing Martin Gitonga said the agreement builds on a longstanding relationship. He also said it would open opportunities beyond conventional advertising.
Kenya Airways partnership links travel and audience experiences
The collaboration spans six areas: travel and connectivity; content and storytelling; sports and lifestyle; customer loyalty and audience engagement; talent development; and sustainability and social impact.
It aims to combine Capital FM’s radio, digital, social and experiential platforms with the airline’s network. Together, the brands plan to develop campaigns, stories and audience experiences across regional and international markets.
Gitonga highlighted sports as a promising area, particularly travel linked to major sporting events. He also pointed to opportunities for partnerships that could serve travellers at different price points.
Meanwhile, Capital FM Managing Director Symon Bargurei said the broadcaster wants to become an integrated African media brand. He said Kenya Airways’ experience connecting continental markets and businesses could support that ambition.
Bargurei also identified opportunities to tell stories about business, culture and the connections made possible by air travel. The joint content plans sit alongside broader efforts to strengthen engagement with audiences.
Sustainability plans and support for emerging talent
Capital FM plans to continue its sustainability town halls in 2027, Bargurei said. It also intends to introduce sustainability awards in the third quarter, offering further opportunities to collaborate with the airline.
Those activities would provide a platform for work on responsible business practices and community engagement. Bargurei expressed interest in drawing on Kenya Airways’ sustainability practices as part of that effort.
For its part, the airline already pursues waste reduction and upcycling initiatives, Gitonga said. He cited old Msafiri magazines that become beads, with the resulting products sold onboard.
The agreement also creates scope to support emerging talent through mentorship, industry engagement and exposure. Gitonga framed the collaboration around the theme of “30 meets 50”, linking the brands’ anniversaries and shared Kenyan identity.
