Kenya and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have signed a $2.08 million climate resilience grant. The initiative aims to help farmers and agribusinesses use climate data to manage risks and improve productivity.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi signed the Climate Smart Agribusiness Partnerships for Resilience (CSAPR) agreement. The signing took place during a courtesy call by Matteo Marchisio, IFAD’s new Country Director.

Through the initiative, climate information systems will become part of agricultural value chains. This will help farmers and agribusinesses anticipate climate-related risks and manage their effects.

The programme also aims to improve agricultural productivity by helping producers incorporate climate information into farming and business decisions.

Alongside the grant signing, Mbadi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deeper cooperation with IFAD on agricultural transformation. Marchisio, in turn, pledged to strengthen the longstanding partnership in support of Kenya’s agricultural sector and rural communities.
