VRChat cites concerns over false declarations and creator harassment as it declines to introduce AI content tags.

VRChat will not introduce AI labels for now, despite 95 percent of respondents supporting some form of disclosure. The company outlined its decision in a support post explaining its user survey results.

The platform lets users create and share virtual worlds for social interaction. Its decision also rules out a tag identifying AI-generated content or allowing users to exclude it from search results.

However, VRChat continues to consider a label for human-authored content and a field listing the tools creators use. It has not reached a final position on either option.

Why VRChat is holding back AI labels

VRChat said some creators would declare their use of AI honestly, while others might misrepresent their work. It warned that creators could present generated or AI-assisted content as entirely handmade.

The company also raised concerns about users investigating suspected AI content and targeting its creators. Such behaviour could lead to harassment, including against people who do not use AI tools in their work.

Instead, VRChat said it would pursue changes that attracted broader agreement across its community. These include accurate thumbnails, improved discovery tools and a stronger focus on quality as a central measure.

Beyond the debate over content labels, VRChat has supported filmmaking and the creation of safe communities for transgender people. However, the platform has also faced accusations that it hosts toxic and predatory behaviour.
